Women, Peace and Security: Study Submitted by the Secretary-General Pursuant to Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000)

Armed conflicts throughout the world have escalated during the last decade, with recent estimates that 3.2 million deaths occurred in internal armed conflicts during the years 1990-1995. Civilians have become targets in these conflicts, with mass displacement, rape and sexual exploitation, violence against ethnic and religious groups, and the use of child soldiers now common tactics of war.
