Willie Pearl Series

An historical fiction for families, set in a Depression-era coal-mining town in Eastern Kentucky. The series centers around a 10-year-old Black girl who is raised in a poor, but loving, whole family environment. Willie Pearl will serve as the first-ever literature series featuring a Black central character. The goal of the Willie Pearl literature series is to create a positive self-image & role model for Black youth, to stress a return to basic family values, & to fill a void in the children's book market with regard to minority readers.
