Author Alan Clarke takes a scholarly and literate look at the West Virginia Central & Pittsburg, which opened rich mining and timber regions of northern West Virginia at the turn of the 20th Century, creating such towns as Elkins, Thomas and Davis. It became part of Western Maryland in 1905, forming most of the West Virginia portion of that road. This is Clarke's second book on West Virginia railroading.
