Chris Carmichael is a world-renowned cycling authority who has coached Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong since 1990 and was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in May 2003. Part of the first American team to ride in the Tour de France, Carmichael was also a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Cycling Team. He served as the Men's Road Coach for the U.S. Olympic Cycling Team during the 1992 Olympic Games, and was the Head Coach for the U.S. Cycling Team for the 1996 Olympic Games. In 1999, he was awarded the prestigious U.S. Olympic Committee's Coach of the Year Award as well as the USA Cycling Coach of the Year Award. Athletes under his direction have won 33 Olympic, World Championship, and Pan American Game medals. In 1999, he founded Carmichael Training Systems, Inc. (CTS, www.trainright.com) to share his coaching philosophy and methodology with cyclists and endurance athletes of all levels. A native of Miami, Florida, Carmichael and his wife, Paige, live in Colorado Springs with their two children, Anna and Connor. Jim Rutberg has been a part of Carmichael Training Systems since its beginning. Originally as an athlete personally coached by Chris Carmichael and later as an employee, he learned the theory and practice of Carmichael Training Systems firsthand. A cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science. In addition to working as a coach, Jim's role at CTS has expanded into software development, content management, and business development. He has competed as a racing cyclist at the Elite National level throughout the United States. In 1999, he competed internationally at the Tour of Okinawa as a member of the U.S. National Cycling Team. A native of Philadelphia, Rutberg lives in Colorado Springs. Questions for the authors?
