Trip Back

Kenneth Clarke was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana but has lived in Texas since 1950 and in Houston since 1960. He graduated from DeQuincy High School and Louisiana State University, where he majored in Geology. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in his freshman year at LSU for pilot training but, eventually, became a ball turret gunner on a B-17 aircraft. He served in the Eighth Air Force flying 32 combat missions out of Molesworth, England. He was discharged in September, 1945, shortly after Japan's surrender. After discharge Kenneth went back to LSU and graduated in 1950. After working as a manager for various oil and gas engineering firms for a few years, in July of 1963 he started his own company representing independent oil operators, chemical plants, pipelines, and commercial real estate developers on property tax matters. In January of 1993 he sold his company to two employees staying on for two years to help them with the transition. Clarke and Company continues to provide these services to this day. Kenneth earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, as well as lesser medals and badges. Another great honor for him was the French Veterans Medal and Diploma for the Battles of Normandy and Provence, and the Liberation of France awarded on the 50th anniversary of D-Day, Normandy - 6 June 1994.
