Three Bold Ventures: The History of North Oak, Minnesota

Joan C. Brainard and her husband purchased one of the first lots offered for sale in 1950, built a home and moved to North Oaks in 1957. She served on the City Council for seven years beginning in 1966, was elected to a three-year term on the North Oaks Home Owner’s Association Board of Directors in 1978, and as a member of the Planning Commission, she drafted the city’s 1980 Comprehensive Plan. From 1981 until 1998, Joan published North Oaks News, a monthly newspaper mailed to all residents.
