SUMMARY
Jim Harrell was born in Selma, Alabama, in 1924. The son of a country doctor, he grew up in the small town of Thomaston, forty miles west of Selma. Married with two daughters, Harrell is now retired and living in Sarasota, Florida. His keen interest in the American Civil War is partly driven by the fact that his grandfather lost his right arm at the battle of Gettysburg.
