SUMMARY

The Arts & Crafts bungalow has been reborn, in as rich and full an array of iterations as it was in its heyday - from tight clusters of similar inexpensive housing opportunities to the grand, and arguably borderline, bungalow scale of the "ultimate bungalows" of the 1910s. The New Bungalow is a celebration of contemporary interpretations of this classic house style - an art form that symbolizes the best of the good life. It offers an alternative solution to the tract development filled with homes appliqu d with various random trim details and contrived architectural components. It is a guide to creating a home that has a true, honest expression of style. Given their simple lines, spacious and open floor plans, natural tones, and colors, it is no mystery why new bungalow developments are gaining popularity. Matthew Bialecki, AIA, founded Matthew Bialecki Associates, in New Paltz, New York. The firm specializes in the site-specific, nature-based design. His designs of both architecture and furniture have been featured in Architectural Digest, Period Homes, and numerous other publications. Christian Gladu, is the owner and founder of The Bungalow Company, a residential design studio in Bend, Oregon, specializing in stock plans and custom designs that reinterpret turn-of-the-century Arts & Crafts philosophy for today's lifestyle. Gladu's work has been featured in several publications including American Bungalow, New Old House, Arts & Crafts Homes and the Revival, and This Old House. He is the author of Bungalow Plans and Small Bungalows. Jill Kessenich, Associate AIA, is a partner with Tim Ashmore in Ashmore/Kessenich Design with offices in Madison, Wisconsin, and Portland, Oregon. They specialize in house designs inspired by the early twentieth century. Kessenich resides in Madison, Wisconsin. Jim McCord, AIA, has designed commercial and residential structures in Victorian and bungalow styles. His projects include the preservation/renovation of significant bungalows of Julia Morgan and others. He practices in Monterey, California. Su Bacon, interior and lighting designer and co-owner of Historic Lighting in Monrovia, California, outfits historic remodels of Greene and Greene, new homes in the style of the Greenes, and many other historic residences and businesses with period-appropriate lighting.Bialecki, Matthew is the author of 'The New Bungalow', published 2008 under ISBN 9781423604358 and ISBN 1423604350.
