The Air Forces Pacific Financial Analysis Tool (AFAST) has been described by senior leadership within the Air Forces Pacific (AIRPAC) staff as inaccurate, marginally satisfactory and too small in scope to produce output ill a relevant and timely manner. Moreover, improvements to the current database are time consuming and cost prohibitive; the absence of adequate design documentation prohibits major modification of the database without significant investment of the limited resources possessed by AIRPAC. The primary goal of this thesis is the development of an improved conceptual design of the AFAST database based on the enhanced entity-relationship model concepts. The secondary goals of the thesis are the specification of the logical design of the improved database, and the implementation of AFAST II, a prototype application of the redesigned database. The results of this thesis are: (1) an enhanced entity- relationship model that fully meets the design goals of Naval AirForces Pacific, (2) the specification of the logical design for the implementation of the redesigned database, and (3) the development of a prototype a application validating the conceptual and local designsNaval Postgraduate School Monterey CA is the author of 'The Development of a Relational Database to Support the Flight Hour Program of Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific' with ISBN 9781423582472 and ISBN 1423582470.
