Terry Wieland is the shooting editor of Gray's Sporting Journal, a field editor for Sports Afield, and a frequent contributor to several other magazines, including Shooting Sportsman. In 1971, as a journalist, he went to Africa for the first time to cover the civil war in the Sudan, and he returned to the continent to report on the chaos in Uganda in 1972, the rioting in South Africa in 1976, and the bush war in Rhodesia the same year. Wieland made his first hunting safari in 1990. Since then, he has hunted in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, and he usually spends several months each year in Africa. In 1987, Wieland made his first visit to Spain to report on gunmaking in the Basque Country.
