John C. Watkins, Jr., is the founding chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, at The University of Alabama. Watkins holds a B. S. degree in general business administration and a J. D. degree from The University of Alabama, an M. S. degree in criminology from Florida State University, and an LL. M. degree in criminal law from Northwestern University. He has served as an appellate law clerk on the Supreme Court of Alabama (1962-1963), and on the Fifth United States Circuit Court of Appeals (1965-1966).
