Michael Hoeye says: "One beautiful Saturday morning in the summer of 1997 my wife and I decided to go out to breakfast in our hometown of Portland, Oregon. On our way we stopped at a garage sale and found an old game of Anagrams, which if you've never played it, is something like Scrabble. When we got to the restaurant we made up a game to play while we drank coffee and waited for our food. The game went like this. After you got your letters, you had one minute to make up the name of an imaginary character and say something about who they were and what they did. I drew the letters that formed the name Hermux Tantamoq. And I immediately saw him as an ordinary, but likable, city mouse who was a watchmaker. A week later I started writing about him." Michael Hoeye first came to Oregon in 1970 to homestead land in the Coastal Range. He stayed for five years. Then he moved to New York, where he found that city life can be even harder than homesteading. He has worked as a stagehand at Studio 54, a fashion photographer, and a high school teacher. In 1991, Michael returned to Oregon to marry his longtime sweetheart, Martha. Until 1998, he taught Management of Innovation and Creativity in an M.B.A. program in Portland. Michael and Martha now live in a stone cottage in Oregon with their cat, Lionel. They enjoy the company of nine big oak trees, six bigger fir trees, three fat squirrels, a noisy family of flickers, and a traveling circus of nuthatches, Stellar's jays, crows, finches, and robins.Hoeye, Michael is the author of 'Sands of Time ' with ISBN 9780142501764 and ISBN 014250176X.
