Rock Art Images of Northern New Mexico

Dennis Slifer is a writer, photographer and guide who, for nearly thirty years, has explored the Southwest with rock art as his focus. He is the author of four previous books about rock art—Kokopelli: Flute Player Images in Rock Art (1994); Signs of Life: Rock Art of the Upper Rio Grande (1998); Guide to Rock Art of the Utah Region (2000); and The Serpent and the Sacred Fire: Fertility Images in Southwest Rock Art (2000). Slifer leads field trips and gives presentations about his rock art interests to archaeological societies, museums, schools, agencies and other organizations throughout the region. Slifer holds degrees in geology and geography. He is also the author of The Caves of Maryland, published by the Maryland Geological Survey. Since 1988 Slifer has worked as an environmental scientist for New Mexico state government, where he is involved with management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
