Richard Beckhard is an originator of the systematic approach to planning change in complex organizations. He recently retired from the Sloan School of Management at MIT as adjunct professor of management. He now devotes himself to writing and to his own consulting firm, which consults with top management of major multinational organizations. He also conducts executive seminars for many management associations, such as the Finnish Management Institute. His writing and studies concentrate on the management of planned change, organization development, and issues relating to family-held firms and health care. Reuben T. Harris is one of the principals of A Center for Management Excellence, a company in the Tom Peters Group. Previously, he was associate chairman of the Department of Administrative Sciences at the Naval Postgraduate School. He has also held faculty appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Sciences and has written over twenty-five articles and papers. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. This state-of-the-art OD series, edited by Beckhard and Schein, includes 26 titles, with 15 new titles planned for the future. It has grown to represent many distinct facets of OD and covers various organizational areas and technologies.
