In Nov. 2002, NATO was to consider the admission of new members to the alliance. The U.S. Senate mandated that the GAO review & assess a report that Congress directed the President to provide on countries seeking membership in NATO. The President submitted a report to Congress in Aug. 2002. GAO found that the report responded to the mandated requirements with information that was generally accurate & current.
