Joachim Braun is an Israeli musicologist of Latvian origin. Educated at the Latvian State Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, he began his career as a violinist and violin teacher but turned to musicology early on. In 1972 he emigrated to Israel and joined the Music Department of Bar-Ilan University, where he taught for many years, retiring as professor of musicology in 1997.
