Rupert van der Werff first started working in the art market in 1995. He joined Sotheby's in 1996 and worked for various departments before joining the garden statuary department in 1998 as an assistant cataloguer. He has continued to work in this department, and has taken charge following the retirement of Jackie Rees Jackie Rees retired in 2001 as director of the garden statuary department at Sotheby's, after a career of 25 years with the company. In 1986 she was part of the team that held Sotheby's first sale devoted entirely to garden statuary.
