Midnight Lightning Jimi Hendrix and the Black Experience

Greg Tate has been a staff writer at the Village Voice since 1986. His work has also been published in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, Premiere, Down Beat, and Art-forum. His writings on visual art have been published by the Whitney Museum, ICA London, ICA Boston, and Gagosian Gallery. A producer and working musician, Tate has, since 1999, put out four albums by his band Burnt Sugar, a fifteen-member conducted-improvisation ensemble modeled after Miles Davis, Sun Ra, and the P-Funk All Stars. Burnt Sugar has performed extensively.
