This book evaluates the risks to human health and the environment posed by exposures to methyl cyanoacrylate and ethyl cyanoacrylate. Both substances are clear, colourless liquieds that react readily with water to form solid polymers. The main applications for cyanocacrylates are as adhesives domestically and in a wide range of industrial environments. Only limited information was retrieved on the health effects of these cyanoacrylates. Also the mode of action of cyanoacrylates for the key end-point, bronchoconstriction, after inhalation exposure could not be determined. However, this CICAD was produced to indicate the large data gaps and uncertainties in the present hazard and risk characterizations because of the widespread and uncontrolled exposure of the general public. It was concluded that in order to arrive at a meaningful risk assessment for methyl and ethyl cyanoacrylate, it would be useful to obtain toxicokinetics, toxicological information including genotoxicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity.Cary, Richard is the author of 'Methyl Cyanoacrylate and Ethyl Cyanoacrylate', published 2001 under ISBN 9789241530361 and ISBN 9241530367.
