The new editors of the Mass Communication Review Yearbook, Gurevitch and Levy, have developed a successful balance between their desire for change and the need for continuity. One of the major purposes of this series is to alert mass communication scholars to changes in the field. Those changes should be reflected in the organization of the book as much as in the actual contents (primarily published articles of exceptional quality and interest). As a result, the volume has been structured around the distinction between macro and micro studies, and will now be published biennially. Macro studies relate to media and society, while micro relate to media and individuals.
