This Dundee mill girl became a missionary in West Africa, far from the European settlements. She dedicated her life to the indigenous people, lived as they did, and spoke their language. An unsung heroine in her own homeland; Slessor's life story, were it not true, would exceed the limits of credibility. Slessor had been inspired by missionary and explorer David Livingstone. She lived with different tribes around Calabar, Nigeria, respecting their traditions but also inspiring the people and offering much-needed care.
