SUMMARY

Kelly traveled through the Middle East during & after the Gulf War from Nov. Ô90 to Nov. Ô91, watching the bombs fall on Baghdad, waiting for Scuds in Tel Aviv, & dining with Kurdish chieftains in mountain camps in northern Iran. He drove across the desert, & was mistaken for the advancing Amer. army & surrendered to by Iraqi soldiers. In Kuwait after the liberation he listened to horrific tales of torture & rape, & walked among the remains of the bombed-out retreating Iraqi army. Later Kelly went to Kurdistan & hiked into forbidden Iraqi territory & then traveled with guerrilla bands at war with Hussein. He got out of Iraq by swimming across a river into Turkey in the company of smugglers.
