Dr. Scarratt was born in 1937, and for twenty-three years was a consultant histopathologist in Plymouth, Devon, England. In 1983, he launched a 35-foot sailing sloop that he had built himself, and spent his holidays cruising the Channel Islands, Brittany, and Southwest Ireland with his family.
