Gene Florence, born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1944, graduated from the University of Kentucky where he held a double major in mathematics and English. He taught nine years in Kentucky at the junior high and high school levels before his glass collecting "hobby" became his full-time job. Mr. Florence has been interested in "collecting" since childhood, beginning with baseball cards and progressing through comic books, coins, bottles, and finally, glassware. He first became interested in Depression Glass after buying a large set of pink Sharon dinnerware at a garage sale for $5.00. By the time this book is published, he will have written over seventy books, at least sixty of them on glassware. He also wrote six editions of an innovative Standard Baseball Card Price Guide and two volumes about Degenhart Collectibles.
