It Wasn’t So Bad is a story based on the author’s life, an Afro-American born and raised in Chicago who at the age of forty gets accepted into law school. He then is reminded of his past and commits to writing this story—a story that reflects his adolescence in a way he feels it never has been expressed. He describes stories of his life as a street player and with a romantic tone describes his romance with life. He provides insight into what a player was to him, the morals, ethics, and most of all the purpose in life.
