In this first of a projected 16 volumes (to be published by August 2008), the pseudonyms of people whose names--their real, actual names--begin with A through Gary "Tex" Bradds are listed. Each brief entry lists the biographical statistics of the person, including profession and countries in which they lived, followed by a list of their pseudonyms. The volume focuses on Europe (including all of eastern Europe), the eastern Mediterranean, and the New World, but includes coverage of Asia, Australia and Africa. The selection of subjects also expands throughout history, including figures from classical times to the present. Seemingly no profession has been omitted; among those included are athletes, writers, diplomats, journalist, writers, militants, actors, revolutionaries, monks, and underworld figures. The introductory material describing the scope and method of the work is presented in English, French, Germany, Italian, and Spanish; the reference itself is in English. Individual volumes are not indexed. Volumes 2-9 continue the alphabetical list of real names; volumes 10-16 will be alphabetically arranged by pseudonym. This reference represents the first coordinated editorial project of Gale and K.G. Saur.
