Dr. Laurence H. Shoup A California native, Dr. Shoup pursued his undergraduate education at California State University, Los Angeles (B.A. History 1966, M.A. Social Science 1967). Following two years service with the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, he studied U.S. History at Northwestern University, receiving his Ph.D. from that institution in 1974. Dr. Shoup has been a professor and lecturer at a number of universities, among them the University of Illinois, San Francisco State University, and Sonoma State University. He is currently a Partner and Senior Historian with Archaeological/Historical Consultants, a cultural resources management firm located in Oakland, California.Laurence H.
