Anna Markard was born in 1931 in Essen, Germany as the eldest daughter of Kurt and Aino Jooss. After a lifetime of studying and teaching dance, and collaborating closely with her father, she has become the authority on the Jooss repertoire. Anna has staged well over 50 productions of The Green Table, Jooss' masterpiece, as well as several of Jooss' other works. In addition to continuing production work, she now also devotes much time to the building of the Jooss Archive, writing, and giving workshops and lecture demonstrations.
