SUMMARY

Welcome Students and Instructors! Getting Started With QuickBooks Pro 2003was written to provide the accounting student with an overview of how the manual concepts taught in the introductory accounting classes can be applied within a computerized accounting environment. While the text is written using instructions for QuickBooks Pro 2003, the concepts learned can be applied to learning many of the other computerized accounting programs available to businesses. The text also contains a quick, refresher course in Windows but does not attempt to teach those skills in a comprehensive manner. It is presumed that the user has at a minimum, the basic accounting skills taught in the first accounting course. The activities will require the use of the company data files available on the accompanying CD-ROM, which is available from Prentice Hall. This option allows the student to modify the data files. The text contains seven chapters of computer workshops, working with mini-practice sets to allow the student to practice the concepts being taught in the curriculum. Suggested Sequence The following assignment list summarizes the computerized accounting materials contained in the text and suggests the order in which they would best be assigned for the accounting curriculum. Assignment Part A of the Appendix Part B of the Appendix Part F of the Appendix Chapter 1: Journalizing, Posting, General ledger, Trial Balance, and Chart of Accounts--The Atlas Company Part C of the Appendix Part D of the Appendix Chapter 2: Part A Compound Journal Entries, Adjusting Entries, and Financial Reports--The Zell Company Chapter 2: Part B Backup Procedures--The Zell Company Chapter 3: The Accounting Cycle (Two Months of Transactions)--Valdez Realty Part E of the Appendix Chapter 4: Working with Payroll--Pete's Market Chapter 5: Merchandising Company Part A--The Mars Company Chapter 5: Merchandising Company Part B--Abby's Toy House Chapter 6: Merchandising Company with Payroll Transactions--The Corner Dress Shop Chapter 7: Merchandising Company Using Perpetual Inventory--The Paint PlaceJanet Horne is the author of 'Getting Started with Quickbooks Pro 2003 (6th Edition)', published 2003 under ISBN 9780131436220 and ISBN 0131436228.
