Joan Namkoong, born and raised in Hawai'i, is the daughter of Korean immigrants. She graduated from Kailua High School and the University of Washington. Following a succesful career in journalism, she became a freelance writer and now has several books in print including "Go Home Cook Rice," "Family Traditions in Hawai'i," and the new "Food Lover's Guide to Honolulu."
