Earthquake Mitigation Programs in California, Utah, and Washington

This report was prepared as part of the Workshop on Issues and Options for Earthquake Loss Reduction in Seattle, Sept. 10, 1992, convened by the City of Seattle and Battelle. It provides examples of earthquake hazards mitigation programs that have been implemented by local jurisdictions in California, Utah, and Washington. The examples demonstrate ways that communities actively work to reduce potential damage from earthquakes. This is not a comprehensive list of all efforts in the 3 states, but rather an attempt to provide an array of the local earthquake hazard.
