Barri L. Bumgarner is a full-time author, occasionally freelancing for Crescendo, School & Community, and Family magazines. She has published two previous novels -- 8 Days and Slipping. She also received Writer's Digest 72nd Annual Writing Competition honors in 2004 for her article "Inspire Magic." Dregs was performed as a staged reading in April 2005 on the anniversary of the Columbine tragedy. Ms. Bumgarner divides her time between attending graduate school and writing. She lives in Columbia, Missouri, and is at work on her sixth novel. Upcoming releases include Playing the Line, a prequel to 8 Days, and Fifty Cents for a Dr Pepper. Ms. Bumgarner attended Lebanon High School, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Missouri State University in 1990. Bumgarner is completing her Masters in English Education at University of Missouri-Columbia. She is a graduate of Long Ridge Writers' Institute, learning under the tutelage of Edgar Award winning author Carolyn Wheat. After graduating from college, Bumgarner taught English for two years in Louisiana, Missouri, then moved to Columbia. She was a center director for KinderCare Learning Centers for over five years, at which time she chose to return to the classroom. She taught Reading/Writing Workshop in Columbia Public Schools for nearly eight years at Oakland Junior High School. Along with nearly thirty poems, Barri has published over fifty articles for statewide magazines, and short fiction in Rock Springs Review and Well Versed. Her story "Retribution" is now available in Mysteries of the Ozarks, Vol. II, May 2006. \ She is the past-president of the Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers' Guild and current administrative assistant. Her newest novel, Slipping, along with 8 Days, are available in bookstores nationwide. Slipping has been reviewed by national radio show host Jim Bohannon and award-winning author Barbara Hodges.
