James Bruce Stanley has served the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Council as representative for the fourteenth district since 1995. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, where he grew up in the Donelson-Hermitage community. He graduated from McGavock High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University and a paralegal certificate from Southeastern Paralegal Institute. He is certified as a teacher of secondary education history, and he has volunteered as a youth counselor with YMCA. He has served as chair of the Metro Council Education Committee; Parks, Library, and Recreation Committee; Noise Mitigation Committee; and the McGavock Cluster Capital Needs Committee. IN addition, he has served on the Council’s Planning, Zoning, and Historical Committee; the Transportation and Aviation Committee; the Stormwater Management Task Force; the Tornado Recovery Board; and as a Council representative on the Metropolitan Nashville Greenways Commission.
