DoD and VA Health Care : Challenges Encountered by Injured Servicemembers during Their Recovery Process: Testimony Before the Comm. on Veterans¿ Affairs, U. S. House of Rep

As of March 1, 2007, 24,000+ servicemembers (SM) have been wounded in action since the onset of Oper. Enduring Freedom (OEF) & Oper. Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The author discussed concerns regarding DoD & VA efforts to provide med. care & rehab. for SM who have been injured during OEF & OIF. This testimony addresses: (1) the transition of care for seriously injured SM who are transferred between DoD & VA med. facilities; (2) DoD¿s & VA¿s efforts to provide early intervention for rehab. for seriously injured SM; (3) DoD¿s efforts to screen SM at risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) & whether VA can meet the demand for PTSD services; & (4) the impact of problems related to military pay on injured SM & their families.
