Barbara was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999 but believes she's had MS for over 30 years. Due to the limited information available and the fear and isolation she experienced when first diagnosed, Barbara started a support group in Lake county Florida so that others would not be faced with the same hardships. She's also helped to launch two other MS support groups in her county. Barbara has given educational presentations about MS at the local community college and participated in a live one-hour radio program on MS for PBS radio. Currently, she is working with the M.S.Foundation to develop the inaugural MS Florida support Group Leaders Conference and is on the Government Relations Committee with the National MS Society.
