SUMMARY

The last twenty years has witnessed increased academic, and practitioner, interest in corporate communications and related areas. It can be seen as part of the development towards that has seen the emergence of integrated marketing communications and, not unnaturally, an integration of management, organization and marketing communications, giving rise to "corporate communications." There now exist a sizeable number of chairs in corporate communications in leading business schools such as Dartmouth, Erasmus, Manchester, Waikato, to name but a few. The introduction of the Harvard Business School elective in corporate communications in the 1980s by Professor Greyser was one of the first courses of its type in a premier business school. Currently, however, there does not exist an anthology containing publications of critical importance on the area. Moreover, issues of corporate communications are, quite often, not discussed on their own but in relation to other corporate-level concepts such as corporate reputation, identity and corporate branding. A distinctive feature of this publication is to fill the void by focusing, specifically, on corporate communications. This publication has the potential to be a work of seminal importance, and could be a cornerstone anthology. The book meets the needs of corporate communications faculty, scholars, students and, to a lesser degree, practitioners. The architecture, and content, of the book also meets the pedagogical needs of university faculty who might wish to use the book as a basis for electives/course introductions to the area. The inclusion of sections focusing on "issues for reflection and discussion" also has the above firmly in our sights.Balmer, John M. T. is the author of 'Corporate Communications Reader', published 2007 under ISBN 9780415403122 and ISBN 041540312X.
