Dr. Bob Birchwood, a professor of microbiology and his wife, Myrna, a free-lancing child psychologist living in the Pinelands agree to foster-parent a four and a half year old black youngster now being cared for by the county juvenile authorities. Victor, the boy, was abandoned by his mother, a street-walker and drug addict the day he was born in a Camden hospital because he has a severe case of vitiligo. His body is covered with white unpigmented circles about an inch wide from his head down to his feet. The Birchwoods reside on some thirteen acres which includes an animals raised for testing purposes section and a lab where Dr, Birchwood performs contracted for testing.
