The first edition, (1962), described as an "almost miraculous accomplishment" by the Times Literary Supplement, presented over 1000 paintings by or attributed to Canaletto, as well as his drawings and etchings. The second edition (1976), out of print since 1985, is now revised by J.G. Links to include references to all that had been published on Canaletto since 1962, in addition to over 100 added paintings and drawings, and a revision of the etchings chapter.
