To be cited, the works must be published during the 20th century and make important contributions to understanding the text or background of the target book. Here Mills (Mercer U., Macon, Georgia) lists without annotation 986 journal articles, essays in collected works, books and monographs, and commentaries through early 1999 relating to the Epistle to the Philippians. Perhaps a majority, but if so just barely, are in English. Most are technical works of scholarship from a range of traditions, but some seek to interpret research for a wider audience.
