This book draws together work currently being done within a contemporary framework on women in archaeology. The development of gender studies in archaeology has left many issues about women still unaddressed. One goal of this volume is to restore the validity of the concept of archaeology and history of women as an approach, whilst retaining the contributions of other ways of thinking about women and gender. To this end, this volume deliberately presents a wide diversity of theoretical approaches and methods of study, representing a sample of work being carried out today under the broad banner of gender archaeology. The geographical and chronological range of these papers is also intentionally wide, from southeast Asia and south America via western Asia, Egypt and Europe, from Great Britain to Greece, and from 10,000 years ago to the recent past. This book consists of three parts; one consists of general papers about the state of gender archaeology today, the second contains papers about the practice of archaeology in the present and recent past, while the third consists of case studies of women and gender in a range of past societies.Hamilton, Sue is the author of 'Archaeology And Women ', published 2007 under ISBN 9781844721207 and ISBN 1844721205.
