SUMMARY

Anatomy for Acupunctureis a unique resource that is aimed at both the acupuncture practitioner and student. For the first time, users can see three-dimensional positions of 88 of the most commonly used acupuncture points accompanied by information such as Chinese name, Chinese character, meridian, acupuncture point position, needle tract, target structure, notes, and warnings. An additional 324 named needle points can also be highlighted in position on the 3-D model. Each of the 88 most common acupuncture points shows the proper needle passage in both musculoskeletal and neurovascular versions of the 3-D model. The models allow for 14 layers of anatomy to be added or removed, including selected viscera, which are viewable from 13 different angles. Anatomical alerts are provided for points where damage could be caused by needles placed in the wrong direction or inserted at the incorrect depth. Additionally, cross-sectional views showing needle relationships to anatomic structures are presented in detail for the head and neck, trunk, shoulder, and upper-limb and lower-limb regions. Anatomy for Acupuncturealso identifies the most clinically important myofascial trigger points and provides information on the anatomic, clinical, and physiologic correspondences to their acupuncture points. All anatomical structures have descriptive text of both musculoskeletal and vascular anatomy, which contains all essential muscles, ligaments, bones, attachments, capsules, and vessels (arteries, nerves, and veins). The 14 principal meridians with points are also highlighted in 3-D, and 42 myofascial referred-pain patterns of trigger points are likewise shown along with their relationships to principal meridians of acupuncture. Anatomy for Acupunctureis an excellent resource for use in teaching or studying acupuncture, for reference, or for showing clients pain referral sites and the selection of points used in treatment.
