This unique historical record of the scientific community's response to the U.S. bicentennial constitutes a useful tool for school and public library ready reference to biographical or historical articles on the history of American science and technology. In an attempt to preserve the outpouring of historical articles on science commemorating the U.S. bicentennial, George W. Black, Jr., Science Librarian at Southern Illinois University, Carbon-dale, was inspired to compile systematically all bicentennial references to science and technology appearing in over fifteen hundred journals in 1976. The bibliography contains some 1,065 entries arranged under headings taken from the Wilson index or other standard lists such asL.C. subject headingsandIndex medicus.Indexes to journal titles, to authors, and to proper names cited in the articles enable the user to find any item of information desired quickly and easily. Complete paging of the articles indexed is given, together with cross-referencing to other articles by the same author or authors included in the bibliography.Black, George W., Jr. is the author of 'American Science and Technology: A Bicentennial Bibliography', published 1979 under ISBN 9780809308989 and ISBN 0809308983.
