Christopher Brickell is Chairman of the International Commission for the Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants and was Director General of the Royal Horticultural Society from 1985 to 1993. He was Editor-in-Chief of DK's American Horticultural Society Encyclopedia of Gardening. Although much of his time is spent giving lectures, attending conferences, and leading botanical expeditions all over the world, he cultivates a wide range of plants, both popular and rare, in his own garden. David Joyce is the celebrated author of many specialized books on horticultural techniques, as well as general gardening books. He was General Editor of The Chelsea Year, a survey of the show activities of the Royal Horticultural Society. He has lived and grown plants in Paris, Hong Kong, and Wellington as well as his native England.
